LIM COLLEGE'S LATEST NEWS ARTICLE: This past May, John Deming, Director of LIM College's Writing Center and faculty advisor for The Lexington Line, LIM’s student magazine, brought 18 students for a tour of the editorial offices of WWD (Women’s Wear Daily). The group included current and former staff and editors of The Lexington Line.
Led by Amber Mundinger, Penske Media Corporation’s Vice President of New Ventures and General Manager of Fairchild Summits + Events, the students toured the publication’s offices and photo studio and met with several staff members, including Editor-in-Chief Miles Socha, who spoke about his career, what it takes to make it in fashion journalism, qualities he looks for in interns and new staff, and the relationship between fashion journalism and politics.
The students also met with Neil Weilheimer, Executive Editor of Footwear News, who discussed his own career trajectory and what goes into producing an issue of the magazine. He also offered advice about how to succeed in the world of fashion journalism.
“Many of our students have shown an interest in fashion journalism, so this was an excellent opportunity for them to get a look behind the scenes and see how the professionals do it,” says Professor Deming. “It was a chance for them to see the kinds of things they might achieve if they work hard enough.”
